Physician Assistant

University Hospitals St. John Medical Center is a 204-bed, full service, nonprofit, acute care hospital located in Westlake, Ohio. Position Summary/Essential Duties:

-Performs hospital admission histories and physicals for all non-teaching medical patients. Performs patient assessment, develops preliminary care plan, and writes treatment orders and recommendations on these patients in accordance with established policies and protocols. Utilizes order sets and maintains compliance with core measures.

-Available for medical house coverage to provide patient problem assessment, medication orders, and procedures.

-Makes hospital patient rounds, with attending and/or independently, to monitor patient’s current physical condition, reviews medical record, talks to patient and provides education as appropriate, performs appropriate physical examination, assesses changes in patient’s condition, adjusts care plan accordingly, writes orders for medication, diagnostic testing, and documents all of the above in the patient’s medical record.

-Responds and assists with Rapid Response and Code Blue Calls as assigned.

-Provides staff and patient education.

-Performs all activities in accordance with established policies and protocols, as set forth in the Hospital bylaws, Rules, and Regulations. Performs all services as approved in delineation of privileges by the Medical Staff. All privileges will be within the scope of their licensure as set forth by ORC 4730 or OAC 4723.

-Documents all procedures and/or services to patients on charge(route) slips and processes route slips in accordance with established procedures to ensure accurate billing to patient accounts.

Education/Expertise:

-Completion of a physician assistant educational program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant or a predecessor organization recognized by the State Medical Board of Ohio. Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants(NCCPA) required.

Required Credentials, License and/or Certifications:

-Must hold a valid certificate to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the State Medical Board of Ohio and a valid certificate to prescribe issued by the State Medical Board of Ohio.

-Must have DEA or be eligible to apply for DEA number

-Must have BLS and ACLS certification

-ATLS recommended

Experience & Knowledge:

-Minimum of 2-3 years experience in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or critical care preferred, but not necessarily required.

Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:

-Computer/EMR experience helpful

-Procedural experience helpful

-Advanced procedural experience helpful

-Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

This position is full-time, 36 hours/week on nights. A sign-on bonus is being offered, details to be discussed during interview process.
