PA- Psychiatry

UH St. John Medical Center

We are seeking a full-time Advanced Practitioner, Psychiatry to work 40 hours/week on a variable day shift which will include weekend and holiday coverage as needed per the department.

Position Summary/Essential Duties:
-Performs inpatient psychiatric consultations. Performs patient psycho-social assessment, develops preliminary care plan, and writes treatment orders and recommendations on these patients in accordance with established policies and protocols. Consults with staff psychiatrist regarding treatment plans and disposition planning.

-Does patient rounds independently and with staff psychiatrist, to appropriately assess and direct care plans for behavioral health patients. These duties will include, but are not limited to; psychosocial assessments and testing. Providing physical examinations, medication review and supportive care management. Additionally, this position can involve education of the patient, the patient's family members and nursing staff.

-Stays current on evidence based psychiatric methodologies and treatment regimens.

-Performs all activities in accordance with established policies and protocols, as set forth in the Hospital bylaws, Rules and Regulations. Performs all services as approved in delineation of the privileges by the Medical Staff. All privileges will be within the scope of their licensure as set forth by ORC 4730 or OAC 4723.

-Documents al procedures and/or services to ensure accurate billing to patient accounts.

Education/Expertise:
-Completion of a physician assistant educational program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant or a predecessor organization recognized by the State Medical Board of Ohio.
-Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required.

Required Credentials, License and/or Certifications:
-Must hold a valid certificate to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the State Medical Board of Ohio and a valid certificate to prescribe issued by the State Medical Board of Ohio

-Valid DEA registration required.

-Must have BLS certification.

Experience & Knowledge:
-Experience preferred but open to new graduates with previous, non-practitioner psych experience or to new grads with sincere motivation to enter psychiatric specialty and willing to learn.

Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:
-Computer/EMR experience helpful

-Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
