CERTIFIED PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

MISSION

To help adolescents and their families recover from the effects of mental illness, learn to care for themselves and each other; and achieve effective quality health care, behavior health treatment and residential services to children, adolescents and their families in a therapeutic milieu to enhance further growth and community reintegration in the least restrictive setting possible.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

With supervision of a Physician:

• Assess the behavioral health status on children and adolescents through health and medical history taking, diagnostic tests and defining of health and development problems.

• Develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan to provide continuing behavioral health care, including examinations, writing orders, chart notes, medication management, discharging patients and completing discharge summaries.

• Provide care, including therapeutic and diagnostic interventions, in accordance with medical protocols.

• Institute and provide continuity of health care to patients and educate the patients and families to ensure understanding of and compliance with their therapeutic regiment.

• Ensure continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multidisciplinary team or with other specialty areas, as necessary.

• Order x-rays, scans and lab tests. Evaluate results and findings, make initial diagnosis and initiate appropriate action to facilitate the implementation of the therapeutic plan.

• Refer patients to physicians, as appropriate, for consultation or for specialized health resources and treatment.

• Work in collaboration with other health care providers and agencies to provide and coordinate services to patients and families, including referral to other health care providers and community resources when appropriate.

• Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning and compliance with regulatory standards.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

• Current Ohio C-PA
• Prescriptive authority required.

Education/Experience

• Graduate of NCCPA accredited program.

Prior experience as C-PA with children and adolescents,psychiatric experience preferred.

Other

• Part time transitioning to full time based on patient care needs.
• On call weekend rotation.
