JobDescription.......... PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES


1. Screen patients to aid in the determination of further medical attention.
2. Review patient records to aid in the determination of health status.
3. Take patients’ histories, perform physical examinations and identify normal and initial laboratory studies. This information will be presented to the supervising physician to aid in the further examination of the patient.
4. Record pertinent patient data.
5. Transmit but not initiate physician orders.
6. Make decisions for initial evaluation of a problem or follow-up evaluation of a previously diagnosed and stabilized condition using patient data gathered during examination. This information will be presented to the supervising physician prior to further evaluation and treatment.
7. Prepare patient summaries which will be reviewed and countersigned by the supervising physician.
8. Perform the following clinical procedures:
A. venipuncture and arteriopuncture for blood gases
B. application of dressings and bandages
C. administration of medication, intravenous fluids, and/or blood upon order by the supervising physician
D. carry out aseptic and isolation technique
E. urinary bladder catheterization
F. Suture removal
G. cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergency situations for supervising physicians’ patients
H. removal of superficial foreign bodies under the direction of the supervising physician
I. intradermal tests, and
J. insertion of arterial lines, central venous lines, and Swan Ganz catheters.
9. Provide patient education regarding common medical problems.
10. First Assistant duties in the operating room as described: During open heart procedures, he would assist the surgeon in putting the patient on the heart-lung machine, aid in the anastomosis process, and in coming off the heart-lung machine as well as harvesting saphenous vein. This primarily involves giving the surgeon adequate exposure by retraction, and at no time would he be doing the actual canulation or anastomosis procedure. During other procedures his role would be that of routine first assist in the operating room.

Salary depends on experience. Will consider a new grad from the NW Ohio area. Great benefit package included.
