Position................ Physician Assistant - Emergency Department and Observation Unit
JobDescription.......... The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is currently seeking Mid-level providers for the Department of Emergency Medicine. This position is available for qualified Physician Assistants to provide direct health care to patients in the Emergency Departments of the medical center under the supervision of a practicing licensed physician.
Responsibilities include:
• work in collaboration with Emergency Medicine physicians in providing comprehensive emergency care to patients presenting to the emergency departments of OSUWMC and OSU's community based hospital: OSU East
• work with physicians to provide observation care to patients in the emergency department's Clinical Decision Unit;
• work under the on-site supervision of a practicing licensed physician;
• perform services independently that are authorized and directed by supervising physician;
• perform health assessments, histories and physical examinations;
• order diagnostic testing and interprets results;
• review & assess patient medications;
• prescribe and evaluate drugs & other treatments;
• interpret health data variations and risk factors;
• perform approved indicated procedures;
• promptly document all encounters in a fashion meeting the standards set forth by OSUP-EM, LLC.
• design, coordinate, and evaluate continuing education offerings
• provide educational lectures and/or precepting experiences for nursing and medical students
Qualifications:
• graduation from an accredited physician assistant Master’s program or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
• National Certification Commission of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) certification required
• eligibility for State of Ohio licensure as a physician assistant required
• experience in emergency department or urgent care setting with direct patient contact preferred
• requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
