Use of Botox

From the Medical Board: "The formulary determines what drugs a physician assistant may prescribe.  It does not determine what procedures the physician assistant may perform.  The administration of Botox for cosmetic purposes is a procedure. The formulary lists Botulinum Toxic Type B as “physician initiated/consultation (with special services plan or hospital policy).”  There are no longer special services plans required in the non-hospital setting. Therefore, pursuant to the supervision agreement, after the supervising physician initiates a prescription or order for Botox the physician assistant in the non-hospital setting may administer Botox and then prescribe future dosages that are the same for the specific patient."
