Charter hires former FBI agent to head corporate security
Charter Communications has hired a career FBI agent to head corporate security.
Jane Rhodes-Wolfe, who spent 20 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, will report to Senior Executive VP David Ellen out of Charter’s Stamford, Conn. headquarters and operate under the title of group VP, head of corporate security.
“In this increasingly dangerous world, Jane’s proven leadership and experience make her the ideal candidate to lead the physical security strategies and programs at Charter and to maintain the critical law enforcement relationships that help keep our 90,000 employees safe,” said Ellen, in a statement.
It’s unclear as to whether this is a new position for the newly expanded Charter — company reps have yet to respond to FierceCable’s question about that.
At the FBI, Rhodes-Wolfe most recently served as a section chief for the the bureau’s counterterrorism division. During her two-decade span at the FBI, she led national programs dedicated to national security, criminal investigations and technology systems. Since retiring from the bureau earlier this year, she’d been working as a consultant.
It’s not unusual for government security pros to migrate to — and from — top telecommunications companies.
In 2014, for example, Joseph Clancy, a retired Secret Service agent who had served in the private sector as director of corporate security for Comcast since 2011, was named interim director of the agency.
