Viacom Draws Legislator's Rebuke for Blocking Streaming TV
Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W. Va.), chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, expressed concern that media giant Viacom Inc. is blocking cable operator Suddenlink Communications’s customers from streaming TV shows on Viacom websites, an issue that is increasingly arising in programming disputes. In a Nov. 2 letter to Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman, Mr. Rockefeller said he is “bothered” that Viacom is restricting even Suddenlink broadband customers who may subscribe to another video provider, like Dish Network or DirecTV , from watching the free, full-length episodes.
