ANNOUNCEMENT
This is an incredible job opportunity for Part-Time Firefighter/Paramedic and Firefighter/EMT positions with the Kettering Fire Department. The City of Kettering is seeking highly motivated and capable personnel to apply for our Part-Time / In-House Staffing Program. This program is actively recruiting qualified candidates for hourly wage positions to support our 24 hour staffing response model.

Applicants for this position are not required to provide volunteer from home response nor is residency within the City of Kettering a requirement.

GENERAL
The City of Kettering’s Fire Department is recruiting to fill Part-Paid Firefighter (Paramedic/EMT) positions. These part-time, entry level positions are operational positions assigned to serve the community primarily in emergency response and mitigation efforts to save lives and protect property. These positions work under supervision to perform a variety of critical fire department functions including: firefighting, rescue, emergency medical response and patient care, fire safety inspections, pre-plans and public education.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must be 18 years of age at time of appointment and certified by the State of Ohio as a minimum Firefighter I / EMT Basic at time of application to be considered for appointment. Continued re-certification is required throughout employment.

Ideal candidates should have basic knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and equipment employed in modern firefighting; fire hazards and fire prevention techniques; and the application of fire records to fire prevention, fire protection, and Fire/EMS report writing. Candidates should be able to perform all functions associated with fire suppression, EMS, rescue, fire prevention, and station/equipment maintenance activities as assigned by the department. Candidates should also have the ability to communicate effectively and portray a positive image of the organization to the general public and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the organization.

Applicants must successfully complete all hiring requirements prior to employment. Probationary recruits will be enrolled in an extensive orientation and field training/mentoring program and must successfully complete all core competency check-off requirements as a condition of employment. Following initial training, this position is expected to actively seek additional educational opportunities to expand their knowledge of modern fire and EMS practices and procedures.

Ideal candidates will possess certifications for Firefighter Level II, Paramedic, Fire Safety Inspector, Haz Mat, and a related associate’s degree, supplemented by formal training in firefighting techniques; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

COMPENSATION
The Part-Paid Volunteer Firefighter I/EMT Basic assignment is a non-classified and exempt part-time position with an hourly pay range of $12.00 to $16.96 (Pay Grade 842) contingent upon the candidate’s related skills, knowledge, and abilities.

The Part-Paid Volunteer Firefighter II/Paramedic assignment is a non-classified and exempt part-time position with an hourly pay range of $13.25 to $18.72 (Pay Grade 843) contingent upon the candidate’s related skills, knowledge, and abilities.
