Assistant Fire Chief

The City of Worthington, Ohio is seeking an Assistant Fire Chief who is a decisive, positive leader, is results-oriented, customer-focused, and has a broad background in all aspects of Fire and EMS service. The Assistant Fire Chief provides leadership and managerial support for the Fire and Emergency Management Services (EMS) Division. It works in partnership with the Fire Chief to manage the budget, programs and staff in the Division, oversees the hiring, training, and development of all personnel, supports the fire prevention and community education efforts, represents the Division in the community and regionally, and serves as the Fire Chief in the Chief’s absence.

The position is open after the retirement of the former Assistant Chief. The Division is staffed with 38 full-time firefighters and has a 2016 budget is $6,461,611. Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree, five years of command level officer experience, EMT-B certification, and completion of an Executive Fire Officer Program, Ohio Fire Executive Program, or a similar officer development program. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree, paramedic experience, and demonstrated community-focused Fire/EMS service. The selected candidate must possess or obtain a current State of Ohio Firefighter II certification as well as possess or obtain a valid Ohio driver’s license.
