OHSAA Out of Season Coaching Rules Added
Recommendation to OHSAA’s Board of Directors
Originally Submitted: September, 2012
Revised: 2/14/013
Approved: 2/14/2013
Various General Sport Regulations as well as Individual Sport Regulations will be rewritten to permit school coaches
the opportunity to provide INDIVIDUAL INSTRUCTION outside the season of play. Current OHSAA General and
Individual Sport Regulations limit individual instruction to the defined season of play and 10 days during June and
July. A few of the parameters:
- No individual instruction may be made mandatory by the school coach
- No individual instruction may take place during currently defined ‘no-contact periods’
- The change in regulations will not be implemented until September 3, 2013
- There will be a limit of 4 (four) individuals in all combined facilities where the instruction is taking place.
There is no designation of whether any of the 4 played for the school team or not. In other words, there
is a limit of 4 individuals whether they played the sport the previous season or not.
- 10 days of instruction will continue to exist during June and July. Any part of a day during June and
July in which more than 4 individuals are present as defined in the regulation permitting Individual
instruction will count toward one of the 10 days permitted.
