Motter Appointed to United Soybean Board

WORTHINGTON, Ohio – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack recently announced the appointment of 16 members to the United Soybean Board (USB), including John Motter from Hancock County, Ohio. This will be Motter’s second three-year term as a USB director.

“These appointees represent a cross section of the soybean industry and I am confident that they will serve the soybean producers well,” said Vilsack.

Motter is currently chairman of the Ohio Soybean Council (OSC) Board of Trustees. He previously held other OSC leadership positions including vice chairman, secretary and chair of the Producer Communications and Production Research Committees. Motter is active in several agricultural organizations near his hometown of Jenera, serving as a member of the Hancock County and State Extension Advisory Boards. He was previously a Hancock County Soil & Water Conservation District supervisor.

Motter serves as USB Vice-Chairman of the Audit & Evaluation Committee and on the International Marketing Committee.

“I am honored to be re-appointed to the United Soybean Board,” said Motter. “Agriculture has always been a part of my life and I believe in giving something back to an industry and a community that has given me so much.  Through my work with OSC and USB, I will continue to work very hard to ensure that Ohio and all U.S. soybean farmers are represented and soybean checkoff dollars are invested in ways that will pay back to farmers.”

The 69-member USB board is authorized by the Soybean Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act. The Secretary selected the appointees from soybean producers nominated by Qualified State Soybean Boards. All appointees will serve 3-year terms beginning December 2012.

About OSC

Headquartered in Worthington, the Ohio Soybean Council is governed by a volunteer farmer board, which directs the Soybean Promotion and Research Program. The program’s primary goal is to improve soybean profitability by targeting research and development projects through the investment of farmer-contributed funds. OSC is the Qualified State Soybean Board for Ohio and works closely with its national affiliate, the United Soybean Board.
