Ohio:
  • Soybeans are Ohio's #1 export among agricultural products, annually accounting for more than one-third of Ohio's total agricultural exports. 
  • Approximately half of Ohio soybeans produced were exported in 2009.
  • Ohio is the 5th largest exporter of soybeans among U.S. states.

The USDA estimates that Ohio's exports of soybeans and soybean products totaled nearly $5.9 billion over the 11-year period of 1997-2008.  This accounted for 35% of all of Ohio's agricultural exports during that period, by far the highest total for any agricultural product.


United States:
  • During the 2008-09 marketing year, a record-breaking 1.24 billion bushels of whole soybeans were exported, over 10% more than the previous year.
  • Including exports of soybean meal and soybean oil, 1.56 billion bushels were exported in 2008-09, which is approximately 55% of total U.S. soybean production.
  • U.S. exports set a record for the third year in a row in 2008-2009, and accounted for over $15.5 billion in revenues.
  • China accounted for more exports from the U.S. than the others in the top 10 combined - China imported approximately 23% of the total U.S. soybean crop in 2008-09.
