Ohio ACOFP to Host Annual Meeting, April 21

(March 2, 2016) Ohio ACOFP members will get an update from the national organization, install the 2016-2017 president, and learn about a new option for diabetes treatment at its Annual Meeting & Dinner, Thursday, April 21, at the Hilton at Easton Town Center in Columbus. The meeting is in conjunction with the Ohio Osteopathic Symposium.

Larry W. Anderson, DO, FACOFP, who will become ACOFP president later this month, will provide an update on activities and legislation at the national level that affect family medicine.

Anderson is in private practice in Dawsonville, Georgia, where he also serves as chair of the County Board of Health. Active in his professional associations at both the state and national levels, Anderson was president of the Georgia ACOFP and Georgia Osteopathic Medical Association. He has also served in the ACOFP Congress of Delegates and on the Ethics, Membership, Practice Management, Preceptor, Marketing and Constitution & Bylaws committees and on the Executive Council of the Conclave of Fellows. He was designated an ACOFP Fellow in 1983 and was named a Distinguished Fellow in 2004.

Edward E. Hosbach II, DO, of Coldwater, will be installed as Ohio ACOFP president for a one-year term. He succeeds Cynthia S. Kelley, DO, of Hudson.

A strong advocate for osteopathic family medicine, Hosbach has served on the Ohio ACOFP Board of Governors since 2001. As president, he will work to promote excellence in medicine through quality education, visionary leadership and responsible advocacy.

Hosbach practices at Mercer Health in Ft. Recovery, where he looks at the “whole patient” to promote preventive care and better manage chronic illnesses. He enjoys using his OMT skills to improve patient health, as well as doing office procedures such as joint injection and skin surgeries.

He also teaches medical students and residents as a clinical assistant professor for Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM). He is a 1987 OU-HCOM graduate and completed his internship and residency at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, where he was named Intern of the Year. Interestingly, his undergraduate degree is in electrical engineering.

The medical lecture, sponsored by NovoNordisk, features Jeffrey Freeman, DO, an endocrinologist from Philadelphia. He will present A Once-Daily Basal Insulin Option for the Primary Care Management of Diabetes.

Active in his field, he has served as professor of Internal Medicine and chair of the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, written numerous articles, given lectures, and serves in a leadership position on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania affiliate of the American Diabetes Association.

Freeman believes the best way to help his patients is through a partnership in which he can customize care plans and treatments. His main goal is to provide each patient with specialized care in conjunction with the tools necessary in order for them to live happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. He calls his practice, Freeman Endocrinology, a “medical home” for thyroid, diabetes, and lipid patients.

The Symposium, which offers 32 Category 1-A credits, runs April 20-24.
