CMS Moves Forward with Quality Reporting Initiative

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) are transitioning from the Physician Voluntary Reporting Program (PVRP) to the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI). The agency has established a new web page on PQRI at www.cms.hhs.gov/PQRI. />
PQRI establishes a financial incentive for eligible professionals that participate in the voluntary quality reporting program. Eligible professionals who successfully report a designated set of quality measures on claims for dates of service from July 1 to December 31, 2007, may earn a bonus payment. However, the bonus will be subject to a cap of 1.5 percent of total allowed charges for covered Medicare physician fee schedule services.

The agency recently published the quality measures to be used for PQRI. On January 22, 2007, the AQA Alliance, through its consensus-based process, adopted eight measures which are now included in the PQRI measures for 2007. To view the PQRI measures, click here. Final specifications for the 2007 PQRI measures will be published on the CMS website no later than July 1, 2007
