ACOFP Students Support Heart to Heart

The Student Association of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (SAACOFP) is partnering with an international humanitarian organization to provide basic care kits for those most in need.

Students are now collecting regular household items to be packaged and sent to Heart to Heart International, an organization that provides medical education, delivers medical aid, responds to people in crisis and addresses community health concerns. Heart to Heart’s Care Kits ensure the safety and survival of communities after a disaster strikes by preventing the spread of germs and helping fight disease.

“This year the SAACOFP is excited to team up with Heart to Heart International and lend our support to their global health initiatives, according to Sean P. Perrine, OMS III, PCOM and SAACOFP President. “We are urging our members to join their local chapters in assembling care kits. Our osteopathic education uniquely prepares us to advocate for primary care, from the bedside to the trenches, and we hope that our efforts will provide basic hygiene items to those with the greatest need.”

The project will culminate in March 2013 at the ACOFP convention in Las Vegas. Each year,ACOFP students select a major project that their 10,000 members at 32 campuses can do to help improve health.
