Health Department Issues Comprehensive Injury Report

The Ohio Department of Health’s Violence and Injury Prevention Program has released its first comprehensive Burden of Injury in Ohio report.

The report uses multiple data sources such as death certificates, hospital data, behavioral risk factor surveillance, and CDC cost estimates to provide a comprehensive picture.

The new publication  lists detailed injury statistics ranging from drug overdose and poisoning to motor vehicle accidents, falls and suicide. Each chapter provides detailed tables presenting the respective injury, violence numbers and rates by age group and sex (and race for death data) over time. In addition, there are important chapters addressing traumatic brain injury and the economic burden of injury in Ohio.
