AOA Releases 2013 Osteopathic Match Results

Results of the 2013 Osteopathic Match were released, Feb. 11, by the National Matching Services, Inc. 

Of the 2,512 individuals (2,255 graduates and 257 previous-year graduates) who participated in the AOA Intern/Resident Registration Program, 75 percent of students and recent graduates successfully matched, for a total of 1,891 placements. Approximately 480 graduates and 140 previous-year graduates did not match, while 287 DOs will serve in military programs this year.

Family medicine was the largest matched specialty, with 472 positions filled.  Family medicine had an 11 percent increase over last year, while internal medicine experienced a nine percent increase .

Of the estimated 4,913 osteopathic students graduating this spring, 2,372 (48 percent) did not participate in the AOA match this year. The AOA offered 2,900 funded positions, of which 1,891 (65 perent) were filled. After the 2012 AOA Post Match, a total of 92 percent of funded offered positions were filled.
