AOA Urges Support of HR 1201

Urge Your Representative in the U.S. Congress to

Cosponsor "Training Tomorrow's Doctors Today Act" (HR 1201)

Reps. Aaron Schock (R-IL) and Allyson Schwartz (D-PA) recently introduced the "Training Tomorrow's Doctors Today" (HR 1201).  This legislation aims to ensure that teaching hospitals have the flexibility to train a greater number of physicians to meet the growing health care needs of the nation.

Experts project the United States will face a shortage of 85,000 to 200,000 physicians by 2020.   HR 1201 will focus on those states and communities that face the greatest need.  Hospitals that are currently training residents over their cap, residing in states with new medical schools, and those emphasizing training in community-based settings stand to benefit; thus, providing trained physicians in areas of greatest need.
