Ohio Fluoride Varnish Program

Primary care physicians can now be reimbursed by Medicaid to apply fluoride varnish during well or sick child examinations for children up to age three. The Ohio Department of Health offers a one-hour training program, free of charge, for staff of pediatric and family practices. Conducted by a dental hygienist/nurse practitioner team, the training includes a powerpoint presentation, video clips demonstrating proper positioning and application technique, and information on oral health risk assessment, referral, and anticipatory guidance.
