Drug Interactions:  A Comprehensive Review

As drug interaction alerts continue to increase, it becomes even more important to know which interactions are clinically significant. This program will explain the differences between pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic interactions; medications and patients at high risk; and the role of the CYP 450 system in pharmacokinetic drug interactions.

Serving the Underserved

Pharmacists are frequently asked to identify health resources for the poor in their area. This session will discuss types of poverty and the challenges those in poverty face; health care for the poor and models of care to address those challenges; the mental model of poverty; and available resources for health care professionals.

2013 Review of Ohio Pharmacy Law

This session will discuss the legal requirements for dispensing controlled substances for weight loss, including the new drugs Qsymia® and Belviq®; faxed, electronic or e-scripts; documentation; partial filling; and the timing and use of OARRS reports to help detect drug diversion. The proper components of patient counseling, and legal requirements for selling syringes will also be discussed.

Starting MTM Services:  From Idea Inception to Implementation

Many pharmacists are interested and excited about starting MTM services, but don’t know where to begin. This presentation will follow one organization’s blueprint to implement MTM services from idea generation to business plan preparation, to identification of basics and key learning points along the way. This model will include pieces and parts applicable to many practice sites.

Choosing the Right Pill: Oral Contraceptive Basics

This program will highlight the pharmacology of oral contraceptives (OCs), evaluate available OC products, and characterize which medications are most effective/acceptable in various patient populations. Our speaker will provide a good “101/Review” of oral contraceptives including pharmacology, therapeutics, and side effect profiles.

Opioids in Chronic, Non-terminal Pain

Evidence exists for and against the use of chronic opioid therapy for non-terminal pain. This presentation will cover both, as well as the recently approved guidelines for prescribing opioids for chronic, non-terminal pain including the Morphine Equivalent Daily Dose (MED).
