Rotation Month at OPA:  October 2013

How did you get interested in the profession of pharmacy?

My chemistry teacher in high school was also a pharmacist. I loved chemistry, and she introduced me to the profession.

Why did you choose OPA as a rotation site?

My personal goal for my year of rotations was to see as many different aspects of pharmacy as possible. OPA offered a completely different than most rotations, with emphasis on pharmacy legislation and networking. I have always been interested in pharmacy law, and this rotation offered a first-hand experience of the newest legislative updates for pharmacists.

What was the most significant or surprising experience at OPA?

had many great experiences on this rotation. One of the most significant for me was my community presentation to the Grove City Senior Center. My grandmother is an active member of this center and she attended my presentation that day. I spoke with a group of about 20 seniors on the importance of hydration, vaccinations, and poison prevention. The next week, my grandma called me to tell me that upon hearing my presentation, one of her friends realized that she had not been drinking enough water and was dehydrated. She started to follow the hydration tips on my handout, and now, she feels so much better! My grandma wanted to tell me that my presentation had directly helped someone. It was an incredibly rewarding experience.

What other pharmacy associations/organizations do you belong to?

I belong to Kappa Epsilon, a women’s pharmacy fraternity at ONU, and APhA/ASP/OPA.

Hobbies:

I love to read, sit at the beach, weight-lift and practice yoga.
