How did you get interested in the profession of pharmacy?

I was in 8^th grade when I shadowed a friend of the family at Giant Eagle as part of a career search. He truly cared about his patients and took the time with them to explain, and even just give them an open ear. I also remember my mom asking questions about my siblings and myself, ways to help us get better and OTC suggestions. He is the community pharmacist I want to go to and to have my family go to. While my career path has significantly changed since 8^th grade, it is still deeply rooted in pharmacy and in the same values. 

Why did you choose OPA as a rotation site?

I knew that Amy Bennett provided a rotation with a heavy emphasis on writing and editing, both weak areas of mine. By having this rotation I knew I would be able to strengthen those skills. I also have a strong interest in advocacy and legislation and I hoped to have the opportunity to educate legislators, attend State Board of Pharmacy hearings and stay up to date with current bills and legislation.

What was the most significant or surprising experience at OPA?

The “life lessons” from Amy Bennett were the most surprising and my favorite part of the rotation. Not only did she teach me the skills to succeed in the world of pharmacy, she taught me life skills and soft skills that will benefit me throughout my life. She has taught me the value of networking and that knowing the right people can be a great asset. Amy has given advice about the kitchen, my wedding, gifts and things to keep in the freezer that I will always value (and giggle) when I think about it.

Running with my sister, hot yoga, and other forms of physical activity

Doing things outdoors with friends & family- white water rafting, hiking, etc. and usually with a cabin, although I will camp
