Undergraduate degree/institution: Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Notre Dame

Rotation Month at OPA:  November 2013

How did you get interested in the profession of pharmacy?

I fell in love with chemistry and science during my high school AP chemistry class. As I realized that I was a science nerd at heart I decided that I wanted a career in the health field and slowly started to explore my options. Pharmacy was the perfect fit for me because it allowed me to mix my love of health and science with helping people. I love the science of how medicines work in the body and I felt that pharmacy offered the best opportunity for direct patient care and helping patients.

Why did you choose OPA as a rotation site?

I wanted to learn more about policy and advocacy. Too often it’s easy to let someone else do all the caring and I wanted to have a baseline understanding of how to advocate for my profession so that I can do my part as a pharmacist while I am in practice to further our profession.

What was the most significant or surprising experience at OPA?

I was most surprised by the amount of editing I got to experience while at OPA. Between the monthly journal and routine association documents, a lot of papers are edited at OPA. But my experiences have been really great because I got to practice my writing and editing skills which sometimes go unused during pharmacy school.

What other pharmacy associations/organizations do you belong to?

APhA-ASP, SSHP, Rho Chi, Phi Lambda Sigma and ASCP.

Hobbies:

I like to run, travel, and spend time with my family and friends.
