Presenter: Dr Phil Cadman, PT, DPT

Dr. Phil Cadman has been in practice for 14 years. He graduated from Shenandoah University with a Master’s degree in 1997 and then completed his Doctorate in physical therapy in 2008. He has worked in a variety of different settings including comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation, trauma, surgical intensive care, and most recently in outpatient private practice with orthopedic and neurologically involved patients. Phil has a special interest in the biomechanics with emphasis on closed chain reaction and muscular influence. He is especially interested in the application of the rules of biomechanics of the kinetic chain across all patient types and injuries from orthopedic and neurological origin.

Phil has taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati in the physical therapy department in both orthopedic and neurological case management bringing the practical application of didactic information into individual cases.

 

Course Description:

This course covers the medical evidence relating to gait function and dysfunction. Expanding beyond just managing footdrop, the presentation discusses the other functional deficits and related compensatory mechanisms associated with neuro-involved gait. We will review closed chain functional biomechanics, how that event triggers the proprioceptive event and how the muscles function in response. Orthotic intervention is presented to address all the functional deficits and allow for a more complete restoration of gait as opposed to just picking the foot up during swing.
