Are you wondering if using your Wii Fit™ is a good fitness activity?
According to researchers, some Wii Fit ™ games can provide adequate fitness activity. Healthy young females were studied as they participated in Step (a step aerobics workout) and Hula (a simulated hula-hoop) at different levels. Researchers measured oxygen consumption, energy expenditure, and other measures of the body’s response to exercise.
While there was little energy expenditure at the beginner levels, the intermediate levels produced energy expenditures equivalent to a fairy brisk walking pace of 3.5 miles per hour. The intermediate level of Hula produced a higher oxygen consumption, presumably because it involves more total body movement and therefore more muscle groups than Step.
So if the rain clouds won’t go away or you prefer to exercise in your own home, grab your Wii ™ controller and Hula away at higher levels for a good workout!
