Foundation Recognizes OPTA Members

On December 8, 2011, the Foundation for Physical Therapy honored two OPTA members with scholarships and research grants. The Foundation’s commitment to develop the next generation of researchers continues to drive members of our profession to positively impact the lives of our patients.

Jennifer Reneker, PT, MSPT was awarded the $5,000 Florence P. Kendall Doctoral Scholarship for Physical Therapy. The Kendall Doctoral Scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding physical therapists as they begin their first year of graduate studies toward a post-professional doctoral degree. These scholarships are funded by the Henry O. and Florence P. Kendall Doctoral Scholarship Fund.

Jill Heathcock, PT, MPT, PhD, an assistant professor at The Ohio State University, is the recipient of the $40,000 Pittsburgh-Marquette Challenge Research Grant. Her 1-year project, “Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) on Children with Hemiparesis,” will study the effects of TMS, a new intervention in which a gentle electrical signal is sent to areas within the brain in order to relax tight muscles in children with cerebral palsy.

Please join us in congratulating Jennifer and Jill in their accomplishments!
