Celebrating 10 Years of Direct Access

  • In 2004, Ohio became the 39th state in the nation to authorize physical therapists to evaluate and manage patients without a referral.
  • Direct access to physical therapy provides convenience in accessing the healthcare system.
  • Physical therapists offer a wide variety of services on injuries from head to toe.
  • No referral means that patients are empowered to control their care.
  • Customized treatment programs meet each patient’s specific needs.
  • Direct Access eliminates the need for unnecessary testing and referrals by other specialists.

EARLY TREATMENT

Physical therapy offers the opportunity for early treatment following an accident or injury. This can reduce the need for subsequent health care visits, MRIs, prescriptions and the need for surgery-- lowering overall healthcare costs.

COVERED BY YOUR INSURANCE

Insurance companies understand the value of physical therapy. Most insurance policies cover physical therapy services when provided by a physical therapist. Contact your insurance company to find out what your plan covers.

PTS ARE QUALIFIED TO EVALUATE AND TREAT YOUR INJURIES

The physical therapy profession has advanced its education model to the doctorate level. All accredited physical therapy schools in the U.S. now offer a Masters or Doctorate degree in physical therapy, and all PTs must be licensed professionals. The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) grants specialized certification status to qualified education programs for physical therapist and physical therapist assistants.
