BWC VICTORIES HIGHLIGHT WEEK IN COLUMBUS

Fee Cut Overturned, Acupuncture Reimbursement Gained

The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation Audit Committee unanimously approved yesterday an amendment to the new Bureau fee schedule which would NOT cut the reimbursements made to Ohio chiropractic physicians.

"This is a win for us," said OSCA Executive Director Woody Woodward. "The Bureau leadership was open to our message and crafted a change which will keep our reimbursements the same. It is a credit to the many, many DC's in Ohio who do an outstanding job providing care to injured workers."

The full BWC Board will likely vote to approve the full fee schedule at its next meeting.

Earlier this week, the Bureau finalized two rules which will allow DC's to be reimbursed for acupuncture services which are provided to injured workers. "Again," Woodward said, "We made a request to BWC and they responded swiftly with the passage of rules which allow certified DC's to be reimbursed for acupuncture services. This provides another tool to our docs as they seek to get injured workers out of pain and return them to the workforce."

Only DC's certified by the Ohio State Chiropractic Board are able to be reimbursed for acupuncture services under the Bureau rules, which are accessible through this link.

Doctors who wish to be certified in acupuncture can begin as soon as next month by registering for the OSCA Endorsed Acupuncture Certification Program presented by the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture. The next Columbus course begins October 25 and 26.

More than 100 OSCA member doctors have completed the training with high praise for the session. Many are already seeing stunning results in practice.
