President Obama Visits Columbus Career Center Graphic Communications Program

obamaOn Sept. 13, as part of his nationwide tour to promote his jobs bill, President Barack Obama visited a classroom at Columbus’ newly renovated Fort Hayes Career Center.  He spent significant time with the students and with instructor Keith Morefield in the graphic communications lab.

“It was pretty exciting,” said Morefield.  “I wasn’t told until the night before, so I had to scramble to get things ready for the visit.”

Morefield said that Mr. Obama chatted with some of the students working on the computers readying projects for the press.  He then visited the offset press operations, screen-printing and large format press.  The students printed a poster as he watched, and he signed the poster for the class.  Mr. Obama took time to speak with each student and asked about his or her career plans.

Mr. Obama’s message at Fort Hayes focused on the need to renovate schools in order to improve student education and to provide more jobs in today’s fluctuating economy.
