Minnesota Affiliate's 2009 Activity Report
January 8: Kevin Sheppard led a presentation about the need for placing AEDs in businesses.
January 9: Wendell Mogren and Gene Johnson told their SCA stories to a CPR-AED class.
January 21: Ray Eyler and Gene Johnson told their SCA stories to a retraining class of EMT/Paramedics to raise SCA and AED awareness.
January 28: Ray Eyler and Gene Johnson told their SCA stories to a class of CPR/AED trainees at Maple Grove Church as part of the Heart Rescue Program Grant, sponsored by Medtronic.
January 30: Affiliate members taught a CPR/AED class for eight employees of The Rhonda Company.
February 4: Members were invited to tell their stories and talk about SCA to a group of 21 firefighters of the Wayzata Fire Department.
February 5: Submitted two resolution on SCA and AEDs, both were passed to be forwarded to the District Democratic Farmer Labor Convention. Resolution 1: Bring physical education classes back into Minnesota school cirriculums. Resolution 2: Place AEDs next to every fire extinguisher in all state buildings.
February 13: Members told stories about SCA to Lakeville Business Association about placement of AEDs in private businesses.
February 14: Monthly affiliate meeting of MNSCASN at Lakeville City Hall.
February 23: Taught CPR and AED use to high school athletes at a girl's hockey tournament at Excel Energy Hockey Center.
February 29: Gave presentation at EMS Conference at Northland Inn, reviewed the physiology of SCA, discussed AEDs, and updated guidelines to CPR and AED usage.
March 5: Gave presentation to EMTs and paramedics who were attending a refresher course to keep their certification current, shared survivor stories and SCA knowledge.
March 6: Attended Heart on the Hill Day @ the Capitol, spoke with visiting senators and representatives about obesity, phys ed in schools, public health care, and heart disease and stroke.
March 8: Manned a booth and taught CPR and AED use to high school hockey players at tournament.
March 12: Gave presentation to EMTs and paramedics who were attending a refresher course to keep their certification current, shared survivor stories and SCA knowledge.
March 13: Monthly affiliate meeting of MNSCASN at Rochester City Hall.
March 15: Taught CPR and AED use to high school athletes at the girl's basketball tournament in the Metrodome.
March 26: Manned a booth at Take Heart Anoka health fair, there were speakers, CPR sessions, lunch, and information booths.
March 28: Manned booth and taught CPR and AED use to high school basketball players at tournament at the Metrodome.
April 17: Monthly affiliate meeting of MNSCASN at Medtronic Headquarters.
April 21-22: Affiliate representatives manned a booth at Duluth Police Convention, where they met police chiefs and obtained leads on SCA survivors who were shocked back to life.
May 27: Attended Mounds View City Council meeting for their SCA and AED proclamation week, thanked them for their efforts and reported recent saves in Mounds View.
June 1-7: After MNSCASN contacted public officials, Minnesota legislators voted to enact these days to SCA and AED Proclamation Awareness WEek.
June 12: Monthly affiliate meeting of MNSCASN at Boston Scientific Headquarters.
June 25: Gave presentation to EMTs and paramedics who were attending a refresher course to keep their certification current, shared survivor stories and SCA knowledge.
July 10: Monthly affiliate meeting of MNSCASN at Minnesota Airport Commission.
July 11-12: MNSCASN manned booth for the CPR and AED training session from Allina Hospitals, taught fair-goers about SCA and AED strategic usage and placement.
August 14: Monthly affiliate meeting of MNSCASN at River Falls Town Hall.
August 17: Manned a booth at Medtronic's 5K at Mounds View Medtronic Plant, educated runners about SCA and AEDs.
August 22: Manned a booth at Fire Prevention Safety Day, also gave presentation on stage.
September 11: Monthly affiliate meeting at Mystic Lake Casino, presented plaque to casino bosses who donated 200 AEDs to state patrol cars.
September 16: Met with students from EMT class at 916 Career Center, told survivor stories to three classes and showed videos of our organization and goals.
Septembeer 18: Sponsored dinner for SCA survivors at Holiday Inn in Bloomington, Minnesota.
October 1: Gave presentation to EMTs and paramedics who were attending a refresher course to keep their certification current, shared survivor stories and SCA knowledge.
October 4: Presented a re-enactment of an SCA attack and save on stage at the AHA walk-a-thon in rochester.
October 6: Told SCA survival stories to Brooklyn Park Fire Department.
October 10-11: 26 SCA survivors attended MNSCASN Survivor Summit at the Kaler Hotel, featured educational classes and motivational speakers.
October 30: Presented an AED and CPR demonstration to Hastings High School.
November 3: SCA survivors told their stories to Fridley High School students and talked about CPR and AED use.
November 5: Gave presentation to EMTs and paramedics who were attending a refresher course to keep their certification current, shared survivor stories and SCA knowledge.
November 13: Monthly affiliate meeting of MNSCASN at Boston Scientific Headquarters.
November 28: Manned booth at Minnesota High School Athletic League gathering for the High School playoffs.
December 9: Gave presentation to the Wayzata Fire Department, featured SCAA info and survivor stories.
December 21: Story on Channel 9 News about MNSCASN and how they teach high school students how to do CPR and use AEDs.
