'Shock' from Innovative Vest Saves Boone Co. Heart Patient

A 60-year-old Boone County man credits a wearable defibrillator for automatically saving his life after a heart attack while sleeping.

William Sears suffered a sudden cardiac arrest recently but was resuscitated by the LifeVest, a worn-over-the-body device that detected the near-fatal arrhythmia and brought him back to life.

St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana intends to use Sears' memorable experience as an example for the benefits of the wearable cardioverter defibrillator for at-risk patients, according to Dr. Richard Fogel, an electrophysiologist at the medical facility.
