Victim's Mother Testifies for Defibrillator Bill in Connecticut

Michele Ciancola told lawmakers her son, Joseph Ciancola, a 20-year-old baseball player from Orange, who collapsed and later died after a workout on a University of Rhode Island athletic field, might still be alive if the college had an automated external defibrillator, or AED.
Ciancola addressed members of the General Assembly’s Public Health Committee this week in support of state Sen. Gayle Slossberg’s bill mandating AEDs at athletic facilities on college campuses. The life-saving device would be readily available at all athletic events.
