Two emergency dispatchers earned Life-Saver Awards after pre-arrival medical advice each gave over the phone thwarted two cases of cardiac arrest.

Cumberland County Commissioners recognized Eric Harne and Jimmy Brandt during Thursday’s public meeting for their efforts in directing 911 callers on two separate occasions to perform CPR on cardiac arrest patients until EMS arrived.

Officials said Harne answered a 911 call in July from South Middleton Township where a 50-year-old man was found unconscious and unresponsive. Harne directed the caller to perform CPR on the man until paramedics arrived. Once inside the ambulance, the man regained consciousness.

Brandt fielded a call, also in July, from Upper Frankford Township where a 19-year-old woman went into sudden cardiac arrest. Brandt guided the 911 caller through CPR until the girl was resuscitated.

The county says both dispatchers “played a crucial role” in saving the lives of these two residents.
