Long Island Miracles Chapter (NY)To make a donation (via secure web form) directly to this chapter: TCSLINKTOFORM[6,CLICK HERE] ABOUT The Long Island "Miracles" Chapter has gotten off to a strong start. They lead the Winthrop Hospital ICD Patient Support Group and invite all those patients to join SCAA. Their steering committee is also reaching out to other ICD support groups at area hospitals. The chapter will learn more about AEDs and CPR, as well as distributing SCA awareness and prevention materials to cardiology clinics across Long Island. Members will also communicate the need for greater AED access. CHAPTER NEWS Manhasset-Lakeville F.D. Receives Two Life-Saving AED's The AED's were donated by the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association as well as the Louis Acompora Foundation. Both AED devices will be placed on the first due fire apparatus from Manhasset-Lakeville Companies 1 and 5 to ensure rapid defibrillation in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest at the far ends of the Manhasset-Lakeville fire district until more advanced care arrives from the Ambulance Unit. On hand to receive the donation were Chief of Department James Dillon, Deputy Chiefs Farrone and Garrigan, Ambulance Unit Captain Lee Genser, Ambulance Unit President David Slotnick, as well as representatives from the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association and Louis Acompora Foundation, including someone whose life was saved by a defibrillator. "Do You Know How to Save a Life?" Robert Schriever, Chairman of SCAA, delivered a lecture entitled, "Do You Know How to Save a Live?" on June 1 at Winthrop's Community Outreach Center. Schriever is a former college football official, so the discussion focused more on saving the lives of young athletes, with the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The pics below show the Long Island Miracles donating an AED to the Robbie Levine Foundation. On April 26, Long Islanders celebrated the 4th Annual Robbie's Run in Merrick, NY. The run raises money to purchase and place AEDs in the community. There were hundreds of people, and we did a short presentation discussing Winthrop, SCAA, the chapter, and then donated the AED. It was really great. The AED is going to the North Bronx Youth League. Enjoy!
