Large Church Pastors Conference

Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blue Ash, Ohio

The Southern Ohio Synod is again sponsoring the annual Large Church Pastorʼs
Conference. This yearʼs conference will be held February 9-11 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blue Ash, Ohio (a suburb of Cincinnati).

There will be three presenters at the conference. On Tuesday afternoon (1:00)
Emlyn Ott, Director of Healthy Congregations and professor at Trinity Seminary will present on the topic of managing dissonace in a congregation. She will be particularly mindful of dissonance caused by the recent vote at the ELCAʼs Church Wide Assembly last August.

On Wednesday, David Stark, pastor on the staff of Prince of Peace Lutheran
Church in Burnsville, Mn., will present on the topic of Strategic Leadership and Planning. This topic will be helpful as the congregations of Southern Ohio Synod face the challenges of a possible schism within the church. Leadership and planned ministry are essential if we are to work together.

On Thursday morning, Mr. Bob Clark will be our presenter. Bob is an active
member of Grace Lutheran Church in Wessterville, Ohio. He is also the president of his own international company. Bob was invited to present because of a comment made my Peter Drucker (the ultimate authority on business and non-profit administration); namely, 90% of the issues and challenges we face are the same in every other organization.

Bob will talk about the strengths and weaknesses he sees and experiences in a
congregation. The discussion should lead us to build on our strengths and reduce our
weaknesses.

As noted above, we are meeting in a new location, The Crowne Plaza in Blue
Ash, Ohio. The Crown Plaza is located just off I 71, the first exist south of I 275 (outer freeway belt of Cincinnati). The exist is # 15. I have reserved a block of rooms at $80.00 per room plus taxes. You must make your own reservations. The hotel has a restaurant and of course there will be a hospitality room.
