Candlemas service at Weaver Chapel, Wittenberg University, on Monday, Feb. 2

Please join us for our annual Candlemas Service, the Medieval Candlelight Vespers for the Presentation of our Lord, which will be held on Monday, Feb. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Weaver Chapel at Wittenberg University.

Pre-service music begins at 7:15 p.m.

The service features medieval and Renaissance sacred music led by the all-male acapella Schola Cantorum, with instrumental music played by the Wind in the Woods recorder ensemble. The homily is a reading from a medieval Christian writer. The service is lit only by candlelight, and begins with a blessing of the candles that will be used in the coming year (congregants can bring candles for blessing as well). The service has an ancient and meditative quality to it.
