Trinity Lutheran Seminary’s Trout Lectures to host the Rev. Dr. Teresa Fry Brown

The Rev. Dr. Teresa Fry Brown, professor of homiletics and director of Black Church Studies at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, will be the featured speaker for the Nelson W. Trout Lectures, April 30 and May 1, at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. The lectures are free and open to the public.

Dr. Fry Brown will address “The Power of Proclamation in the 21st Century.” She is an ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church and currently serves as associate pastor of New Bethel AME church in Lithonia, Georgia. She is the author of numerous articles and books including, Can A Sistah Get a Little Help: Advice and Encouragement for Black Women in Ministry, (Pilgrim Press, 2008); Delivering the Sermon: Voice, Body and Animation in Proclamation (Fortress Press, 2008); and Weary Throats and New Songs: Black Women Proclaiming God's Word (Abingdon Press, 2003).

The first lecture begins at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, and concludes with a second lecture at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 1. Dr. Fry Brown will preach at an evening worship service at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Established in 1991, the Trout lectures honor former Trinity Professor, the Rev. Dr. Nelson W. Trout (1920-1996), the first African-American Lutheran bishop in the United States.
