Obituary for the Rev. John G Mittermaier

The Reverend John G. Mittermaier was born into life on September 27, 1923 and born into eternal life on January 10, 2016. He was born in Delphos, Ohio, the oldest child of Rev. John G.E. and Beatta Gesell Mittermaier. He was a 1945 graduate of Capital University and a 1947 graduate of Lutheran Theological Seminary (now Trinity Seminary). His first call was to St. Mark Lutheran in Ossian, Indiana. In 1951, he returned to Ohio, accepting the call to serve St. Paul, Dayton. In 1963, he was called to Grace, Fremont, and then was elected Ohio District President in 1975. Pr. Mittermaier resigned that position in 1976 and accepted the call to Trinity, Evanston, Illinois. He would return to Ohio in 1979 serving as Pastor of Trinity, Circleville. Upon his retirement from Trinity in 1989, he continued as Visitation Pastor for another 18 years.

John G. Mittermaier and Joan Ott were united in marriage in 1947 at Zion Lutheran, Hamilton, OH. She preceded him in death in 2008. Their four children survive - Alan (Linda) of Gahanna, Pastor John T. (Connie) of Springboro, Pastor Paul (Beth) of Germantown, WI., and Mary Ann (Michael) Debo of Ashville.

A celebration of the resurrection will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 E. Mound St., Circleville on Friday, January 15 at 11 a.m. Visitation is at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 East Main Street, Circleville, from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2016. Clergy are invited to robe and process. Stoles are white for the Baptism of our Lord.
