Obituary for The Rev. Arthur F Haimerl--Update on additional details re services

The Reverend Arthur (Art) F. Haimerl went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 6, 2013.

Pr. Haimerl attended Wagner College in New York and went on to attend The Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA where he received his Master of Divinity degree in 1958. He continued his education in Columbus, Ohio at The Ohio State University, taking classes in Business Administration and specializing in Personnel Management. Pr. Haimerl then went on to receive his Doctor of Ministry from The Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1977 where he spent much of his time studying psychotherapy and counseling.

This degree later helped Pr. Haimerl introduce the first Columbus, Ohio Chapter of Families Anonymous in 1983.

Pr. Haimerl served as Associate Pastor at The Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Rochester, NY from 1959-1964, he moved to Columbus, Ohio where he became Pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church in 1964. He retired from Ascension Lutheran Church in 2000, after 36 years of faithful service to that congregation.

He served his community as Vice President of the Lutheran Student Foundation at The Ohio State University, as a member of the Educational and Community Outreach Committee for the North Area Mental Health Association, as well as a frequent speaker and instructor for various seminars and classes.

He and Nancy were married in 1959 and were blessed with three children, Mark, Scott and Todd.

Funeral services will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1479 Morse Rd, Columbus at 10 am on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. A burial service will follow at Kingwood Memorial Park, 8230 Columbus Pike, Lewis Center.

Clergy are invited to robe for the funeral. The color is white.

Friends and family are invited to attend a luncheon after the services at 1 pm at the Haimerl Center at Ascension Lutheran Church.

Visitation with the family will be held at Weir Arend Funeral Home, 4221 N High St, Columbus, on Tuesday, May 14 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Friends may also visit with the family at Ascension Lutheran Church one hour prior to the funeral service.
