Prayers for Our Sisters and Brothers in ELCA Region 2 Regarding the Wildfires--Info from Rocky Mountain Synod
The following was sent by the Rocky Mountain Synod in regard to the wildfires burning in ELCA Region 2.
Prayers for creation and its caretakers
Throughout the area of ELCA Region 2, devastating fires are burning. New Mexico, Colorado, and California are facing the most challenging at this time, and pastors and ELCA church members are reaching out in prayer, support, and compassion, especially in Colorado and the Black Forest Fire. Pastor Dean Smith and Pastor Julie Britsch know that parishioners reside within the evacuation area and may have lost their homes.
Recalling last years' fires, Julie said, "Over 350 homes gone again?! I know each one has a story and a long road ahead." Pastor Robert Kippley, Canon City, notes that the Royal Gorge fire has consumed about 3800 acres and is 20% contained. "There is lots of smoke yet. Looks like a volcano," he said.
We hold in prayer and compassion all who are affected by these fires and by all who are a presence of hope in the midst of the devastation.
