SAVE THE DATE! 2015 SOS Assembly

June 5-6, 2015 Southern Ohio Synod Assembly at Capital University in Columbus. Assembly plenary sessions will take place on Friday and Saturday, June 5 & 6. Most congregations may send two voting members, plus their rostered leaders. Please begin planning now to attend.

Regional Listening Posts for SOS Visioning Process Dates Set--Please Mark Your Calendars and Plan to Attend

All lay people of the Southern Ohio Synod are invited to attend one of the Visioning Process Listening Posts in your area during October and November 2014. Please spread the word in your congregation and gather as many people as possible to attend. 

SOS Constitution Task Force Timeline for Revisions--Preparing for Presentation at Assembly

The following letter was submitted to Bishop Dillahunt by the Southern Ohio Synod Constitution Task Force. The letter includes a timeline for revisions, which was presented to and approved by the Southern Ohio Synod Council on September 20, 2014. Bishop Dillahunt and the Synod Council feel the content of the letter and the timeline are important for every member of our synod to know so everyone understands the process that has and is taking place prior to the Synod Assembly voting on the adoption of the revised constitution in 2015. Please share this with your congregation. 

Pulpit Supply Coordinator Unavailable for a Short Time Period in September and October to Fill Vacancies

The Southern Ohio Synod's Pulpit Supply Coordinator, Sr. Sally Burk, will be unavailable during the following time periods to fill last minute pulpit supply requests.

The September 2014 issue of Reflections on Congregational Life addresses the role of a leader in a congregation as it relates to creating and maintaining a particular culture and climate within the congregation.

ELCA Malaria Campaign Update: Find Out Where SOS Stands & What Progress is Being Made Against Malaria

The Southern Ohio Synod has given over $180,000 to the ELCA Malaria Campaign as of September 1, 2014.

The Southern Ohio Synod Mental Wellness and Recovery Task Force has teamed up with The Castle, a ‘safe haven for adults with mental disorders,’ located in Centerville, Ohio, to offer two programs featuring Amy Simpson, award-winning author of Troubled Minds: Mental Illness and the Church’s Mission and Anxious: Choosing Faith in a World of Worry.

Mark Your Calendars Now to Attend the Region 6 Immigration & Refugee Consultation, Nov 21-22 at Trinity Seminary

You are invited to attend a special ELCA Region 6 event on Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Seminary. The event is titled 'Immigration and Refugee Consultation' and features representatives from U.S. State Department, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, ELCA, and Lutheran Social Services. 

ELCA Members Advocate for Action on Climate Change

Hundreds of members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) were among the more than 400,000 participants in the People’s Climate March in New York City on Sept. 21. The Lutheran delegation joined the People’s Climate Interfaith Contingent, one of the largest groups in the march. 

Lutheran, Anglican, Episcopal Leaders Offer Pastoral Message on Climate Change

The national leaders of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, Anglican Church of Canada and The Episcopal Church offered on Sept. 19 a pastoral message on climate change.
