Reminder! Congregations Invited to Send New Mission Interpreters to Information/Training Session on Sat Oct 25 at Synod Office

We invite you to send one person from your congregation to our Mission Interpreter Training Session on Saturday, October 25th at the synod office.  This is the second year we have invited congregations that do not yet have a Mission Interpreter to send an interested person to this training. It is our goal in the Southern Ohio Synod to have at least one Mission Interpreter in every congregation.

Our training event begins at 10 am at the Southern Ohio Synod office, 300 S. 2nd St, Columbus and wraps up at 3 pm. Lunch is provided. Reimbursement for travel is available.

Mission Interpreters tell the stories of how God is changing lives through our giving.  These stories help our members understand how their giving makes a difference.  It helps connect them to the mission and ministry of the wider church. We also thank our members for their faithful giving ~ it is because of the giving of their time, talents, and money that these stories are made possible.

What are the benefits of having a Mission Interpreter in your congregation?

  • Supports Pastor in sharing the stories of the 3 expressions of the Church
  • Helps members understand the work and ministry of the ELCA
  • Helps congregation to understand the ways their resources are transformed into mission and ministry
  • Creates a spirit of mission--when people feel connected; feel "in relationship"...they often want to do/give more
  • Helps congregation members feel personally connected to mission and ministry around the world--we are partners in ministry with many others around our state, nation, and world

Please send someone from your congregation who is passionate about the work of the church and would enjoy sharing these stories. Once you have identified a person from your congregation who would like to serve as a Mission Interpreter (or at least learn more about it) please send their name and contact information to Jan Borchers (our synod's Mission Interpreter Coordinator) at janborchers6@hotmail.com.

To learn more about what a Mission Interpreter does and how he or she positively impacts their congregation and the greater church, please see the flyer below.
