Photo Challenge Groups

Photo Challenge Groups are small groups of two to six Westbridge members who meet once a month to share photos and provide constructive feedback to each other. Between meeting, members create ten new images based upon a specific challenge topic. They upload their images to a photo sharing website (such as www.PBase.com) or email them to each other, so they are able to review them before their next meeting.

Photo Challenge Groups will help you grow as a photographer and an artist. By being challenged to seek out and create certain types of images on a regular basis you will have a reason, direction and a deadline to develop your creativity. By sharing images with others you will learn new ideas and your input will also help others grow too.

With our club growing rapidly, Photo Challenge Groups also help by providing small group participation opportunities. You must be a member to participate.

If your group needs assistance, contact program coordinator Tom Snide.

New for 2010: Club-wide Challenges!

Photo Challenge Groups may now elect to participate in club-wide challenges. These challenges will encourage your group to work as a team to produce images that are shared online with other Westbridge Photo Challenge Groups. Groups will also be competing against one another.

July's Challenge Instructions

Okay...so not a lot of participation online in the May challenge. I guess that either means that I picked a bad subject, or you're choosing your own subjects. No problem. The weather has been beautiful lately, so let's do something outdoors for this next challenge.

Starting this month, I'll provide a number of challenge topics with varying degrees of difficulty.

Objectives:

  • a specific topical assignment - go out and shoot new pictures!
  • sharing images
  • practice critiquing others' work
  • working together as a group to share and compare opinions and suggestions for improvements

Here are three topics for July. As a group, pick one and run with it:

  1. Emotional > Summer Fun
  2. Scenic > The Great Outdoors
  3. Technique > Telephoto images at less than F5.6 and more than 150mm

Use these topics to get inspired and create images that convey the concept. If your work ultimately leads you in another direction that interests you, by all means, please follow your instincts, photograph what you are drawn to.

Take images separately, or set time to meet up as a group and go shooting.

Meet before the month is out and upload up to three of your favorite images to the PCG Challenge #03 folder on the Westbridge Zenfolio site. A reminder that you can find uploading instructions online under the Digital Competitions Resource Center.

Have Fun!

p.s. I've had a number of folks contact me about joining a PCG. If you have room for one more, please put a message out to the listserve to let others know. Thanks!
