The Cardiac PA provides preoperative assessment and support in collaboration with the health care team. Serves as first assist during cardiovascular surgical procedures. Performs preoperative patient assessment. Provides pre- and postoperative teaching and support. Performs endoscopic vein harvesting, post-operative removal of catheters, tubes, pacing wires, and IABP. Assists in the training of students and staff, and communicates with other members of the health care team to assure critical information is relayed throughout the perioperative period. Completes appropriate documentation of services, all under the supervision of a cardiothoracic surgeon.

The Ortho PA is expected to function on the day shift in the Operating Rooms in The Ohio State University Medical Center, the Orthopaedic patient care units, the outpatient clinics, and other patient care areas as needed. The position will experience extended hours and emergent call-in to meet patient needs. This position is responsible for surgical assisting during Orthopaedic ( Foot and Ankle/infection )surgical procedures, performing histories and physicals, making pre and post operative rounds, placement of catheters, post operative removal of catheters and tubes from patients, assisting in the management of patients in the outpatient clinics, assisting in the training of students and staff, and competing documentation of services, all under the supervision of an orthopaedic surgeon.

Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program or equivalent combination of education and experience. National Certification Commission for Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) certification. Eligibility for State of Ohio licensure as a physician assistant.
