Counselor Preparation: Accreditation and Distance Education
The Covid-19 pandemic resulted in, one, a seismic shift in higher education to digital delivery of programs and two, an increase in telebehavioral health. The shift in higher education means a paradigm shift for counselor education. The increase in telebehavioral health practice requires attention to interstate laws, consistency of assumptions, and practice regulation. The use of telebehavioral health and distance supervision in practicum and internship has implications for initial licensure and regulating post-degree supervised practice licensure requirements.

AASCB Temporary Permission to Practice Telehealth with Existing Clients
Intent – to ensure continuity of care while existing clients are either transitioning to become a resident of another jurisdiction or because they are temporarily located in another jurisdiction. Primary mode of therapeutic interventions must be through video or phone conferences that are compliant with Federal and State privacy and confidentiality requirements.
