What’s Happening at ACEC Ohio

ACEC Ohio has kicked September off with a bang. The Board of Directors had their first meeting and many committees have started off the new year. In addition, ACEC Ohio hosted an orientation on September 15 for our three new board members and chapter leadership. This was the first time chapter leadership has been invited to the orientation program and it was a success. Not only did members from each of our four chapters learn the ins and outs of ACEC Ohio, but they were able to talk about issues happening at a chapter level. Please welcome our three new ACEC Ohio Board members: Brad Hyre, HDR, Inc. (SW Chapter), Ron Turner, Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr and Huber, Inc. (Central Chapter) and Chris Preto, Mott MacDonald (NE Chapter).

ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE AWARDS
The 2017 Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) Competition, the premier event in our engineering community, is just around the corner. Do you have your project identified and ready to submit? If not, I encourage you to take a look at the projects your firm has recently completed and enter at least one of them in the competition by the ACEC Ohio November 3 deadline. EEA celebrates the most outstanding project achievements of the engineering profession. The goal of the EEA program is to convey to the engineering and construction industry, government officials and the general public the contributions that consulting firms make to society and to their local communities through exceptional design. ACEC Ohio has celebrated the success in engineering across Ohio with these awards for 16 years. This year we are working hard on promoting the competition and on enhancing the awards luncheon by adding a host, so if you know any celebrities or have an idea for a host please give me a call!

50th ANNIVERSARY NATIONAL EEA
ACEC National EEA 50thThe odds of winning at the National level are better than ever this year. National ACEC is celebrating 50 years of Engineering Excellence Awards by increasing the number of projects that will be recognized, doubling the number of Grand Awards from eight to 16 and increasing the number of Honor Awards from 16 to 20. If you’re a Saturday Night Live Fan, Kevin Nealon is the host of this year’s National Awards. This is the year to submit your project to the EEA competition, up to 10 winners in Ohio are eligible to move to the National award stage. Don’t wait, identify your project(s) and get them entered this year for the EEA celebration. ACEC Ohio submissions are due November 3.

As always, I welcome your feedback, please feel free to contact me with questions.
