Connect with ACEC Ohio--Committees in Full Swing

Join a committee, connect on social media, stay informed and get involved

ACEC Ohio Committees have been very busy holding their 2017-2018 kick off meetings.Transportation June 2017

Most committees have been discussing their work plans for the new year as well as other trending issues pertaining to the individual committees.  Here is a listing of meetings that have taken place: 

Communication: The Engineering Excellence Awards were the main topic of discussion, mark your calendars for the submission deadline of November 2, 2017 and awards lunch on March 8, 2018.

Government Affairs:  The committee has kicked off the year reviewing the state of the Statehouse which includes a mid-biennial budget review in early 2018, this bill may bring back the sales tax on professional services issue.  The committee will meet via conference call the third Friday of each month.

Political Action Committee Trustees:  This committee meets on the calendar year, not the ACEC Ohio fiscal year and the trustees are focused on meeting the PAC goals for 2017. Both the National and Ohio PAC’s are at 70% of their goal.

Small Firms Committee: The committee held a meeting in early September and discussed a broad variety of issues impacting their businesses.  This committee will meet twice a year, the next meeting will be set in early 2018.

State Public Works: The full committee met and discussed ways to engage the vertical engineering member firms, if you have suggestions please let us know.  In addition, the full committee discussed the ACEC Ohio/AIA Liaison Committee to OFCC and three key issues being worked on, Procurement, Fees and Contracts. This joint committee has created a partnering relationship with OFCC Executive Staff and meets quarterly, the last meeting was September 21. 

Transportation: Our Transportation committee kicked off in July, hosting ODOT staff and the Honorable Mike DeWine. The ODOT/ACEC Ohio Liaison Committee will meet with ODOT Executive Staff on October 4th and the full committee will meet again on November 8th with a "Enjoy Retirement" breakfast reception for Lyle Flower, Administrator of the Office of Consultant Services at ODOT. 

Coming up this week:

Environment and Energy Committee:  This committee has two active Agency Liaison committees.  One with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources which met in early September and the other with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency which will meet on October 6th.  In addition, the meeting this week on September 27, will host Ken Heigel, Chief Program Officer of the Ohio Water Development Authority.
