Health Commissioner

Ashland County Health Department

Job Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Be the primary representative of the department in the community and keep the public informed in regard to all matters affecting the health of the District. Encourage all staff to collaborate with community representatives and organizations to meet the public health needs of Ashland County.

Budget, cost analysis and grant management. Prepare and manage all financial aspects of the department. Research, gather, compile data and create reports. Make reports monthly to the Boards of Health, as well as periodic fiscal reports and annual reports.

Provides leadership and direction in Ashland County Health Department’s public health accreditation attainment and implementation.

Leads and manages staff and conducts annual performance evaluations of leadership team and ensures regular evaluations of all staff.

Secretary to the Board of Health, responsible for meeting agenda, annual schedule, minutes and recommendations from the Board of Health

Oversee Human Resource responsibilities which include hiring, payroll, disciplinary action, paid leave accrual, management of ACHD personnel records.

Act as the secretary and the executive office of the Boards. Organize and facilitate the annual District Advisory Council meeting.

Qualifications:

Must possess and maintain licensure in the State of Ohio as a physician, dentist, veterinarian, podiatrist, or chiropractor OR possess a Master’s degree in Public Health or equivalent health related field.

Experience with fiscal management and human resources preferred.
