ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SANITARIAN

Belmont County General Health is accepting applications for a full time (35 hours per week) position of Environmental Health RS or SIT.

Applicants must have a minimum of Bachelor’s degree with at least 45 quarter or 30 semester hours in science courses acceptable by the State for Sanitarian Registration. SIT applicants must show proof of graduation and application to the State Board of Sanitarian Registration. Applicants must hold a valid Driver’s license and have reliable transportation.  The position will focus on responsibilities in environmental health programs as a generalist.

Position: Classified, benefits-eligible
Hours: 35 hours per week, some weekend and evening hours
Salary: commensurate with experience and skills

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general direction of the Director of Environmental Health, the Registered Sanitarian/Sanitarian-in-Training is responsible for rendering and managing general professional public health sanitarian duties in licensed facilities, homes, and other community settings; performs related duties as required. Participate in public health emergency response as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to conduct inspections, communicate effectively in written and oral form; resolve complaints from the general public; prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports; and use proper research methods in gathering data. Ability to educate operators and the general public.

Ability to write, issue and enforce violations in accordance with applicable laws and rules. Ability to work with people to obtain results to achieve compliance. Ability to work together with multiple agencies, including law enforcement. May be required to testify in court proceedings. May be required to respond to a complaint after regular business hours.

Knowledge of basic computer programs such as Word and Excel. Ability to enter findings into computer programs to produce documents.

Knowledge of a variety of public health policies and environmental health programs is preferred.
